The Kwazulu-Natal government is putting the final touches to its plans to host Public Viewing Areas (PVAs) at four key districts in the province to give locals a taste of the Confederations Cup excitement. Entry to the PVAs is free.

The 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup, considered a dress rehearsal for the 2010 Fifa World Cup ™, kicks off on the 14th June 2009 and features continental and international giants including Egypt, Italy, Iraq, New Zealand, Spain, USA, Brazil and host nation South Africa.

2010 Host city Durban is not hosting any matches but the Provincial Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT) is pressing ahead with plans to make sure the people of the province experience the thrill of the Cup.

DEDT MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu said the province will host PVAs in the following district - the uThungulu (North Coast), Ugu District (South Coast), Umgungundlovu District (Midlands) and uThukela District (Northern).

‘’Public viewing sites will be set up in key municipalities as part of getting everyone excited and ready for the world tournament. We want people to have a sense of what 2010 is all about, no matter where they are,’’ said an excited Mabuyakhulu.

Over the past 15 months the department hosted 13 PVAs for key local and national football matches to gauge the success of the PVA concept. PVAs will be hosted on six of the nine Confederation Cup days and includes South Africa's games on three of days, plus the 'big games' - semi-finals and finals.

Details of the exact venues and schedules will be showcased in the local media. Events at each PVA will include a stunning line up of entertainment with leading artists, live broadcasts by leading radio stations and DJs, plus a list of initiatives to keep everybody in a celebratory mood.  The Provinces Department of Sports, Recreation and Arts and Culture is finalising a dazzling entertainment programme and a star studded line up of community for the various districts.
