World Cup Government Services

Here is a selection of services the South African government will offer during the 2010 Fifa World Cup. These are in keeping with the Fifa Guarantees signed by various departments.

Transportation
The Government has guaranteed it will have in place a transport infrastructure that can accommodate the travel demand created by the World Cup. The Ministry of Transport will coordinate the provision of efficient and safe transport in each host city and, with its partners in the transport sector, ensure sufficient and appropriate transport capacity.

Healthcare
In keeping with health-service requirements outlined by FIFA, the Ministry of Health has guaranteed that the infrastructure of the South African health system - and, specifically, a comprehensive medical and disaster-management service - will be available in the host cities for the World Cup.

Safety and Security

The Ministry of Safety and Security, supported by the South African Police Service (SAPS), has guaranteed to ensure safety and security during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. A written security plan has been developed and implemented in conjunction with the Organising Committee.

Immigration

As we acknowledge South Africa's preparations for the 2010 Fifa World Cup ™, we feel honoured to be the first to welcome visitors to our shores for the tournament. We have gone all out as the Department of Home Affairs to put measures in place, which will ensure that our visitors experience a warm African welcome at our ports of entry.

Telecommunications

The Ministry of Communications has guaranteed that the telecommunications infrastructure will conform to FIFA's requirements. This includes the infrastructure for wire and wireless national and international telephone, data, audio and video exchanges.

Finance

The Ministry of Finance has agreed that it will waive custom duties, taxes, costs and levies on the import and subsequent export of goods belonging to the Fifa delegation, its commercial affiliates, the broadcast right holders, the media and spectators travelling to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup.

Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries

If you want to bring any plants, animals or their products into South Africa, please be aware that they could carry foreign pests and diseases. To protect local agricultural industries and South Africa’s biodiversity, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) controls entry of agricultural products and other materials that could pose a health threat to humans, animals or plants.
