Fifa reassures trust in South Africa
Fifa President Sepp Blatter has expressed confidence that the situation in South Africa will be brought under control ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup™.
“The executive reiterated its trust in the authorities to keep the security situation under control and asserted once again its full confidence in South Africa’s organisation of the next World Cup,” Fifa said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Fifa executive committee was briefed on the state of preparations for the World Cup and also discussed the recent violence at its meetings in Sydney, Australia.
The South African government said on Monday it had brought the situation under control and that more than 1,300 arrests had been carried out.
