
Johannesburg – The first of four 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup Ticketing Centres was unveiled to the media on Wednesday in Johannesburg.
Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chief Executive Officer Danny Jordaan and Fifa Secretary General Jerome Valcke attended the media pre-launch event in Sandton. The Main Ticketing Centre at Sandton Isle will officially open on 1 May 2009.
The LOC said the Ticketing Centres will enable fans to purchase tickets “over-the-counter” easily.
“With the launch of the Ticketing Centres the ‘over the counter’ sales are commencing as well as Ticket collections for those who have already purchased,” said the LOC.
There are in total four Ticketing Centres opening up for the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup:
• Main Ticketing Centre at Sandton Isle, Corner of Rivonia Road and Linden Street, Sandown/Johannesburg; open from 1st of May
• Mangaung/Bloemfointein Venue Ticketing Centre – Lochlogan Waterfront Mall, Corner of Charles and 1st Avenue; Open from 4 May
• Rustenburg Venue Ticketing Centre – Waterfront Mall , 1 Augrabies Avenue; opening from 4 May, and
• Tshwane/Pretoria Venue Ticketing Centre – Brooklyn Mall, Corner of Middel and Fehrsen Street, New Muckleneuk; open from 4 May
The Ticketing Centres will open 7 days a week from 9h00 to 18h00.
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates number one supporters Sadaam Maake and Mzion Mofokeng, respectively, were the first to get their hands on the tickets for the 2009 Confederations Cup.
In addition to the four Ticketing Centres, there will be four Ticket Collection Points in Johannesburg and Tshwane/Pretoria operating from 11 May 2009 from First National Bank branches:
• Eastgate Shopping Centre, Gardenview 2047
• Maponya Mall, Old Potchedstroom Road, Klipspruit Kliptown
• Sunny Park, Corner Esselen and Travenna Roads, Sunnyside, and
• Hatfield, Hillcrest Blvd Shopping Centre, Lynwood Road.
Jordaan commended the launch saying the ticketing centres would bridge the gap between South African fans and ticketing technologies used by rest of the world.
“We need to close the gap between South African football fans and technology and bring the technology closer for future events,” Jordaan said.
With 44 days to go to the kick-off of the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup there are about 320 000 tickets still available to the general public.
Customers are urged to bring the credit card (if purchased via Fifa.com), ticket purchase card from their hard ticket application form and proof of identity.
